Mastering Saturday Chores in Connecticut: Local Tips for Efficiency and Enjoyment

It's Saturday, and for most homeowners, or anyone for that matter, it means time to do some chores.  That means cleaning the home, doing laundry, or anything else that didn't get down during the week.

My wife last night was talking about getting a dry erase board to better organize ourselves and efficiently get through a to do list.  That got me thinking, we can't be the only one's struggling with this?

So that was all the inspiration I needed to write this latest blog post.  What are the best ways to get through Saturday chores?  And since I'm your local hometown Connecticut Realtor, this post will have a local spin on it.

We all live in Connecticut, so what does that mean for Saturday chores?  Well since our seasons here, are very different, that effects what will may have to do on any given Saturday.

Our chores/tasks are influenced by weather, outdoor conditions, and cultural activities among other things.  We have 4 very different seasons here, lets talk about each.

Spring:  After what seems like a long winter, us weekend warriors are ready to step it up a notch.  In the spring we go from spring cleaning (deep cleaning of our home) to gardening and lawn care.  This may also include windows and gutters.

Summer:  In between our vacations we need to maintain not our home, but if you have a yard, got to cut the grass, and keep up with the gardening.  Since the weather is the best this time of year, we may start some outdoor projects (painting, deck repairs etc.).

Fall:  Leaves, ranking and disposal, not to mention after all those leaves fall, you want to clean the gutters again.  This is also a great time to prepare for winter (insulate pipes, seal windows, check heat systems and snow blowers).

Winter:  Snow, you got to clean (remove) the snow.  Now that it is called outside, it is perfect for some inside projects (repairs, updating etc.)  Don't forget about the holidays, you need to put up and take down decorations, which is my project for today.

Now that we talked about the most common chores, lets dive into getting them done efficiently and maybe even with some enjoyment.  For me, when it comes to decorating for the holidays, I like to play Christmas music.

Embrace the seasons:  In the spring and summer enjoy the weather.  For example gardening can be relaxing for some.  Listen to music while mowing the lawn.

In the fall, the color foliage can make outdoor chores enjoyable.  Make raking a competition involve family members, who rakes the most wins.  In the winter, take advantage of a hot cup of coco or cider after shoveling the snow.

Now lets talk about being more efficient.  Plan and prioritize, create a chore calendar or list.  For example schedule gutter cleaning for late fall and spring.  Break down large tasks into smaller manageable parts.  So you aren't overwhelmed.

Involve the community, here in Connecticut there is a strong sense of community, take advantage of it.  Organize neighborhood snow removal groups to help the elderly specially.  This not only shares the workload it provides opportunities to socialize.

Are you looking to learn more about Connecticut.  Well as you garden maybe plant something that is only native to the state.  While you do some winter chores listen to a music from local artists.

Use technology, download an app that will streamline tasks and save time.  Investment in a robotic vacuum or high efficiency gardening tools like all in one tools.

It is important to reward yourself, stay mindful and positive; educate and involve your kids.  If you do all those things, you won't dread the next Saturday of chores.

We will stop here for now, stay tune for part of this two part series, where will dive into shopping, the importance of taking breaking, and setting goals.
